Highest Match to Jody

Ok, with 8 people already playing (WOW) Becky Bray and Sally Brooks are both matching me at 30% (the highest match yet).

I know you all are so relieved! :)

If you have not done the VisualDNA yet, it is FUN FUN!

Group Project for Sept!

Visual DNA

As scrapbookers we know, more than anyone, that a picture can paint a 1000 words. But what do those pictures say about you? If you could describe yourself through pictures what pictures would you choose?
*
I was surfing one night and came across this site Imagini (see above box) and started playing. I thought this was one of the coolest things I have ever seen and I wanted to share it with ya'll and find a way for us to turn it into a scrapbook. A GROUP PROJECT was born.
*

What to do:
Click on Get Your Own VisualDNA (see top of page). This will take you to a website that I found. Follow the directions for getting your own visualdna. You will need to save your DNA and create a name (mine is jwaters4). This is all free and really a lot of fun and VERY easy. Have fun playing in the site and looking around.
*
Next email your results (send to friend) to jwaters4@suddenlink.net and amimizell@suddenlink.net . After we get the email you will then be able to add jwaters4 and amisu under your friends tab. You can also go to a persons profile page and at the top will be a red button that says "Add As Friend". That person will then need to add you as a friend and then you are Friends. :) You may need to click on your friends tab and add them as friends there. This sometimes takes a little while to all go through. BUT you do not need to do this part to do the project. This is just the comparison, something fun.
*
Next log onto scrapbookuniversityblogspot and post your user name so that others can add you as friends. What this does is allows you to compare your answers with the rest of us. For example Ami and I are only a 15% match on our answers. TOO FUNNY! I wonder which of you is a match for me (so sorry whoever you are) and who is a match to Ami. (note: you cannot "match" someone to you until you have added them as a "friend")
Ok, that is computer part, now onto scrapbooking.
*
I wanted us to do a type of journal together. I wanted it to be totally easy and completely STRESS FREE! So everyday I will post a question, for example, ART IS...., your job then is to find a Visual example of what ART IS to you. It can be a photography, a magazine cut out, something you printed off the Internet, etc. WHATEVER there is no right or wrong. Title the page ART IS.... paste the pic. and move on to the next day. If you miss a day DO NOT STRESS. I would like you to send me the pictures of each answer everyday. I will post the question and then publish all your pictures. I think it will totally cool to see what everyone picks.
*
If you want to take the project one step further you can actually journal about the picture and why you choose it to represent the question for you.
*
At the end of the month you will have compiled a journal of your VisualDNA. Pictures that represent you and what matters most to you in life.
*
(For my journal I covered a composition book with Black Cardstock and then copy, pasted and printed pictures from the website that were my answers- Stop by SU if you want to see it or have any questions)

A Change For SU

To everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep
To everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven
A time to build up,a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together
To everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven
A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing
To everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven
A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late...
I don't think the Byrds had Scrapbook University in mind when they wrote one of my favorite songs BUT it did seem fitting to the news Ami and I will be sharing on Friday night. You will not want to miss it! Call and sign up for the crop to hear all about the Change Coming to your Scrapbook Store.

Busy Week!

Several of you have called, apologizing for not being able to come to Book Club tonight... We totally understand that many of you are busy moms, trying to get school supplies bought, haircuts done, clothes ready, etc. We are too! Just come on in sometime this week to pick up your Book Club kits and book. This one is fun and different than anything we have done in NYOBC. See you soon at Scrapbook U!

The math class you'll love!

Six in sixty is back and you are going to love how you can multiply your productivity while dividing your time in this quick and easy class for all scrapbookers. This class is all about the productivity, and almost all of your homework has been done for you. Everything is planned, cut, and ready to be assembled. All you have to bring is your adhesives and your photos. If you like, just save those photos until later, but come and assemble your pages with us. That's all there is to it - six layouts in sixty minutes! Here is a sneak peak of the great stuff you get for your $20:

The first layout uses this great combination from the Tres Jolie line by My Mind's Eye. The title is "Bright Smile". The layout design includes room for the following photos:
1 - 4x6 portrait orientation
2 - 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 squares
1 - 4 3/4 x 3 1/2 landscape orientation
(This could make a great Christmas layout too!)

*****

The second layout uses the SEI Such a Boy collection, but don't let that fool you! This color combo works just as well for the girls. Use my title (Hangin' Out) or create your own. The layout calls for 2 - 4x6 portrait orientation photos.

****

I just love the Witches Brew line from Reminisce! If you haven't seen this paper up close, it has a terrific sheen that just adds to its appeal. This design can handle several photo combinations; select the one that best fits your photos (or take some this year for a layout that is already finished).

Combo 1: 2 - 5x7, (1 portrait and 1 landscape)

Combo 2: 1 - 5x7, 1 4x6 (1 portrait, 1 landscape)

Combo 3: 2 - 4x6 (1 portrait, 1 landscape)

Combo 4: 3 - 4x6 (all portrait)

Combo 5: 2 - 4x6 (both landscape)

****

This layout lets one 5x5 photo take center stage. This would be great for a zoo picture, an animal Halloween costume, or a portrait of someone who is a little on the "Wild" side.

****

This layout uses the great new Reminisce Aloha line. Don't worry if you've never been to Hawaii, (I haven't either) this layout is just all about "FUN". You get to decide what kind (mine was "Summer Fun"). This layout is designed for the following photos:

1 - 4x5 (portrait)
1 - 4x4
1 4x6 (landscape)

****

You are certain to fall in love with this layout that uses the beautiful Modern Romance collection by Daisy Ds. This page could be a tribute to a friend, a loved one, a family member, a spouse, or a great "Me" page. Bring a 5x7 portrait of your subject to complete this lovely layout.

****
Keep in mind that black and white photos go with everything. We can make custom enlargements, as well as color-to-B&W photo conversions, and have them ready for you when you come to class.
This terrific class will be next Tuesday night (August 28th) from 6:00-7:00 pm. Call now to sign up, there are only a few spots left!

Kick-Off our Back-To-School Season

Bill came home with the kid's back to school list today. Can you believe it? Well if it HAS to happen we might as well capture some great scrapbooking moments. Take your kids shopping with you (I know, I know it is easier without them) and take pictures of them picking out their stuff, the shopping cart full and don't forget to save that receipt. All this will make a great scrapbook page.

Buying supplies for my kids always reminds me of my own school days and the experiences I want to remember and to pass on to my kids.

Here are some page and journal ideas to get you started:
What were your favorite and least favorite subjects? Why?
Did you have a favorite teacher? Did he or she inspire you?
Which "click" were you in? Are you still in touch with some friends?

Were you popular? Were you unpopular? How has this affected your feelings about yourself in your adulthood?
Were you involved in sport, band, or other extracurricular activities?
What would you change about your school days if you could? Why?

This assignment is much more than a fun walk down memory lane, it can reveal a lot about who you are today and may reveal some connections with your children and their interests that you have not yet discovered. Your child may gain a new understanding of how universal the experiences of school days can be.

This is your First Homework Assignment. It will be due by next Thursday. You may bring it into the store or email to us. Your work will be rewarded (wink, wink).

Have fun my BFF's

Jody
